New videos: Apple is trying to make Final Cut Pro attractive to professionals

Apple has launched a new series of advertising for its video editing programs on Mac and iPad. Since the weekend, two three-minute films have appeared on YouTube that introduce the two current versions of Final Cut Pro – 10.8 for macOS and 2 for iPadOS. The central functions of the updates are presented there.

While the Mac version of the ad is primarily aimed at drawing attention to the new AI functions in the update, the clip for the iPad version is specifically about the new Multicam functionality when using iOS and iPadOS devices as cameras (in reference to the Last Cut Pro camera app) and operation via finger and stylus.

However, the two apps are still not comparable as they have a different range of functions. Also, exporting in the iPad app is a bit laborious due to the lack of real multitasking.

Apple launched both apps in June. Final Cut Pro for iPad 2.0 iPads and iPhones can now be used to record entire studios. Up to four devices will have new Final Cut Camera App Controlled. The iPad acts as a control center and remote control. AI features include lighting and color correction, where they can automatically adjust brightness, balance, or contrast.

The Mac version of Final Cut Pro can automatically adjust lighting and colors using AI, has an optimized slow motion mode (only for Apple Silicon machines), renamable workflows, and improved timeline search. There are many new filters and additional search criteria. “Tell your stories with more power” is one of the slogans used by Apple.

The Mac & I test showed that Final Cut Pro 2 on the iPad has become more mature – especially because external media is now supported. Unfortunately, Apple has not changed any of the other points of criticism: The iPad version still lacks AI-based object tracking, and importing Mac projects still does not work on the iPad. Final Cut Pro for Mac is still available as an individual purchase for 350 euros, the iPadOS version costs 4.99 euros per month.
