Apple is testing four M4 Macs in the autumn

Apple is apparently planning several new macOS machines for October – and has now started tests in which external apps are also used. According to the developers’ report, a total of four still unknown model identifiers appeared in the log files. These are called “16.1”, “16.2”, “16.3” and “16.10”. It appears that the “16” stands for the new M4 processor, which is currently only used in the iPad Pro, but should come to the Mac for the first time in the autumn.

Financial news agency Bloomberg also believes so This year’s iPhone launch is expected to take place a month after the launchProbably on September 10. So the mentioned model identifiers represent the entry-level variants of the M4; each of them should have ten CPU cores, and a low-end variant should have only eight. Each had ten GPU cores, the low-end model apparently has eight. RAM equipment is 16 or 32 GB.

Bloomberg previously reported that in addition to the new MacBook Pro models, a new iMac with M4 SoC and a revised Mac mini with M4 will be released in the fall. The iMac and MacBook Pro are said to be hardly changed in terms of form factor, while the Mac mini is shrinking – towards a slightly taller Apple TV model, as speculated. New tandem OLED displays on notebooks are probably not expected until next year, and Apple has so far only used them in the iPad Pro.

When it comes to the iMac, it is still unclear whether Apple will bring the long-awaited larger model with Apple Silicon to market. Currently there are only 24-inch screens, the 27-inch model has never been upgraded from the Intel version to the ARM world. Recently it was said that Apple is still working on plans to include a larger all-in-one computer in its range, possibly even 30 inches instead of 27 inches.

However, it is probably not expected before 2025. The reason may be that Apple currently lacks a high-quality panel – it needs to be something better than the 27-inch 5K display that is currently in the Studio Display. Among other things, it lacks HDR support and has taken a few years to make, even though it has been praised by testers. Apple is still charging 1,749 euros per piece.
