E-MTB Telefunken M925 Climber in the test: mid-engine bargain for 1100 euros

When a mid-engined e-mountain bike is offered at a price of barely more than 1000 euros, expectations are not necessarily high. Surprisingly, a test of the Telefunken M925 shows that such an inexpensive e-bike certainly has its charms. This bike is a hardtail e-mountain bike with a powerful 250 watt mid-motor and an 8-speed derailleur. The Telefunken M925 is currently offered in two color models: graphite/gray and blue. The bike is also available in 27.5 inches and 29 inches. All this sounds great, but what about other components such as brakes, saddle and suspension fork?

This much can already be said: In addition to the powerful 250 watt mid-engine with 80 Nm, we particularly liked the hydraulic disc brakes in the test. In addition, the tires come from the brand manufacturer. It’s hard to believe that all this is available at a price of only 1099 euros (at the time of the test) – surely there must be a glitch somewhere?

  • 250W mid-motor with 80Nm
  • 36V 504Wh Lithium-ion Battery
  • Tires from the brand manufacturer Schwalbe
  • Modern, sporty trapeze frame
  • Shimano hydraulic disc brakes

The price of the Telefunken Aufsteiger M925 at the Quelle mail order company at the time of testing was 1099 Euros. The RRP is 2499.90 Euros.

It has been proven that cycling has a positive effect on health – even an e-bike is far better than driving a car. But even the most careful drivers cannot rule out the risk of an accident 100 percent and e-bikes are highly sought after by thieves. We therefore recommend additional insurance to minimize possible negative consequences. With many insurance companies, it is really worth comparing. Because if you compare regularly, you can easily save several hundred euros per year. The tariff calculator from Heise Online shows where you can save the most.

Setting up the Telefunken Aufsteiger M925 is easy as the bike is already largely assembled at the time of delivery. So just take the bike out of the box, straighten the handlebars and put the pedals in place. Despite the complete assembly, we recommend re-tightening the screws before the first ride. No tools are included in the scope of delivery. For those who do not have tools at home, we recommend a Specialized Bicycle Multi-Tool And take a look at our guide to the best e-bike accessories: smart locks, dashcams, multitools, lights & Co.

Visually, the Telefunken M925 looks high quality thanks to its sporty, modern trapezoidal frame and matte blue paint. A small, subtle lettering from the manufacturer adorns this delicate frame. Thanks to a clever design, the battery becomes part of the frame, making the bike look even more elegant.

The 27.5-inch bike has an overall size of 179 cm x 68 cm x 109 cm (L x W x H) and weighs 24 kg. We found the cable management on the handlebars to be positive. Here the cables are connected to each other by spiral hoses, which makes the handlebars look neat. Unfortunately, not all weld seams are clean. They serve their purpose, but are not always nice to look at. Many components, such as brakes and gears, are from Shimano, but in the lower price range. The pedals are made of metal and appear stable. They also have the yellow reflectors required for German road traffic.

The handlebars are 68 cm wide, which is the standard size for mountain bikes. The good ergonomic shape gives you a comfortable sitting position while riding. The handlebar height is comfortable and the height can be adjusted slightly by moving the spacer (spacer ring to adjust the height of the handlebar). The handles are standard but feel comfortable. There is no throttle grip – this would not be allowed in Germany either. If you value a bell, you have to buy it. We opted for it This small and inconspicuous model Decided to make the bike roadworthy.

The monochrome LC display shows the most important points clearly and clearly. The main display shows speed, kilometers driven and support level. Drivers have to press the menu button repeatedly for more information. The trip odometer, total odometer, driving time, maximum speed and average speed are shown here. The control element for turning the e-bike on and off is also integrated into the display. You can also regulate the support level using the “+” and “-” buttons.

By pressing the plus button longer an additional menu opens. A manufacturer code is required here. This can be found very quickly on the Internet. This makes it possible to set the display brightness, language and units in this menu. However, the maximum speed can also be changed to 99 km/h, but this requires an additional sensor (MBIQ-S eBike tuning for Ananda mid-engine for only 135 euros), which must be installed. However, higher speeds and tolerances of more than 25 km/h are illegal for e-bikes in Germany. Activation remains simple, but in our opinion it is overall too complicated for the bike to remain legal without an increase.

The saddle height can be adjusted between 61 cm and 82 cm as desired, so that even tall people can make themselves comfortable on the bike. The measurement was taken from the center of the bottom bracket to the surface of the seat cushion. The Telefunken M925 offers comfortable driving pleasure with its modern, sporty trapezoidal frame. However, the saddle still has room for improvement in terms of comfort. But the saddle should be individually tailored to the rider anyway. A variety of models are available, from sporty to comfortable Here,

The Ananda mid-engine has a continuous output of 250 watts and a torque of 80 Nm. It is relatively quiet. Thanks to the powerful 80 Nm, the e-bike picks up speed powerfully – whether when starting off or accelerating. The driver can choose between five levels of support using the controls on the handlebar. With a little practice in setting the support level, you will get a comfortable driving experience. It is possible to keep the speed constant at the highest level. However, if the speed is reduced sharply and then started again, the motor with 80 Nm immediately ensures that the top speed is reached again. When the speed of 25 km/h is reached, the engine is switched off and you continue to pedal with muscle strength. When measuring the speed while driving using GPS, no more than 25 km/h was found. Overall the engine leaves a very good impression.

According to the manufacturer, the suspension fork has a travel of 100 mm. This can be slightly adapted to your own needs in just a few simple steps. To do this, simply use the lever on the suspension fork and adjust the rebound. Overall, the suspension fork is suitable for normal use (in the city or on moderate terrain). However, a bike with a suspension fork is not suitable for jumping or riding on very uneven terrain such as a bike park. The spring travel and force are somewhat undersized.

The tires from the manufacturer Schwalbe are noteworthy. The “Smart Sam” model on our test bike measures 27.5 inches x 2.25 inches. During our ride, we particularly liked the quiet noise it makes when driving on the road. But the running and grip properties are also good off-road. It has little rolling resistance and good grip at the same time. The profile has good grip and is very quiet due to the closely spaced knobs, which almost form a central strip.

Shimano’s hydraulic disc brakes on the front and rear wheels are not of very high quality, but we didn’t expect this given the price of the bike. Still, the brakes work well in general and stop the bike quickly and safely after a little braking, even at high speeds.

The battery on the Telefunken Aufsteiger M925 comes from Greenway and provides 504 Wh at 36 V and 14 Ah. Charging time in our test was an average of 5.25 hours. The manufacturer states a range of 120 km. In the test, as already expected, we only covered 70 km according to GPS – with maximum assistance level and often at 25 km/h on relatively flat terrain with low slopes. This is still a good value for such an inexpensive e-bike. The battery is also quite sufficient for daily trips to work or even short trips. It is easy to remove the battery from the bike using the included key, so that the battery can be easily charged not only on the bike, but also at home.

The Telefunken newcomer M925 was priced at Quelle at the time of testing 1099 Euros. The cost of shipping the bike is 39.95 euros as the bike is delivered by a freight forwarder. If you don’t like the bike, it can be returned only if the bike has not been driven more than 5 kilometers. Otherwise a loss of value fee will be charged. With the exception of this restriction, free returns are possible in Otto for 30 days.

Bike price at the time of testing in Net 1111 EuroAvailable in grey and blue, it is also available with 29-inch wheels 1111 Euro. As an alternative to the Telefunken M925, you can also use the Sachsenrad R8 Ranger (test report) for a little more money. Test reports for other bikes can be found on our e-bike topic page.

Overall, the Telefunken M925 offers solid features and good workmanship (apart from the sometimes unsightly weld seams) at a really affordable price. Apart from the visually appealing trapezoidal frame, we particularly like the mid-engine, which makes the driving experience very pleasant due to its good and powerful support. The hydraulic disc brakes on the front and rear wheels give good feedback and stop the bike immediately. Schwalbe’s high-quality tires are another plus point. They are supportive both in nature (field and forest paths) and in the city.

As is almost always the case, the bike’s range of around 70 km at maximum support level was well below the stated “up to 120 km”, but the actual range is still fine. This can be tolerated, especially considering the really low price. If you are looking for an affordable, sporty, elegant e-MTB for everyday use, the M925 is a real up-and-comer, as Telefunken’s bike offers a unique price-performance ratio.
