Prime Video: The new interface should clearly show what’s included in Prime

Prime Video is getting a new look: Amazon has introduced a new interface that aims, among other things, to more clearly identify the content of a Prime subscription. The new interface is currently being rolled out to the Prime Video app.

The navigation bar, which was previously on the left and has now been moved to the top, has been redesigned. There are several categories such as “Sports”, “Movies” and “Live TV”. The “Prime” tab is new: it lists all the content included in the Amazon Prime subscription at no additional cost. Until now, this content was mixed with the offers of other services or rental movies, making it difficult to keep an overview.

This mix, which is also used to advertise other streaming services, should remain present on the home page. However, the revised logo should more clearly show whether the content is part of Prime, has to be purchased additionally or is included in an optional subscription.

In addition to the Prime tab, there are other tabs for alternative streaming services that are integrated into Prime Video. In the sample images from Amazon these are Max and Paramount+.

In addition, Amazon wants to improve program suggestions for users – of course with generative AI, as Amazon emphasizes in a statement. In addition, films and series should be grouped together in categories such as “Top 10 in the USA” or “Trendy Shows”.

Amazon promises that visually, the interface will be supported by new animations and smoother transitions. In addition, the interface is said to have been optimized so that users can navigate as easily as possible, even on older TV sets. Amazon does not provide any information about which devices the new interface will be available on – but in addition to televisions and Fire TV, it should also come to Android and iOS devices.

Amazon last revised the Prime Video interface two years ago. Since then, the company has, among other things, looked for ways to display additional ads.
