“Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2”: Full game leaked before release

An early developer build of the upcoming action game “Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2” is circulating online. Publisher Focus Entertainment has now confirmed related media reports in an X-post. In it, the developers are expressing regret about the leak: “It is disappointing that many of the surprises we wanted to keep secret have been revealed.”

Dame According to Insider Gaming magazine The full download of the upcoming action game is 75 GB in size and is fully playable apart from a few missing assets. Playing together with friends should also be possible. According to Insider Gaming, the build is from February. Publisher Focus Entertainment and developer Saber Interactive talk of an “old build” in their X-post.

The official version of “Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2” is scheduled to be released on September 9. There is more than half a year between this final version and the February build. During this period before release, improvement work usually takes priority over improving the game. New content is not usually developed so late in the development cycle.

Gaming leaks of this magnitude are rare. Sometimes it happens that some game scenes from a demo or hands-on build end up online – at the end of 2022, for example, scenes from the developer version of “GTA 6” leaked. The fact that entire games are available on the Internet even before their release is a complete exception.

“We ask everyone to avoid the unfinished build and not spoil the game,” the “Space Marine” development team writes in X-Post. The impact of the leak is hard to estimate. The number of actual downloads and the unfinished nature of the leaked version make any major economic impact unlikely. However, the leaked gameplay footage may reveal the story and discourage some fans from buying it.

It is also extremely annoying for developers to suddenly see a version of their work that was not intended for online publication. Now the studio will have to face the unpleasant question of how the entire game managed to get onto the Internet before its release.

“The best way to support our hard work is to play the game the way we always envisioned it,” X’s developers said in a statement.
