Window management: macOS 15 brings these innovations

macOS already has a whole range of ways to distribute windows on the desktop. So you can long-click on the green button at the top left of each window to move it to the left or right – as well as Additional alignment work Using the mouse and trackpad. In addition, the well-known – and not undisputed – Stage Manager has even more restrictive window management. With macOS 15 aka Sequoia, which is due to appear in autumn, Apple is once again getting closer to the Windows distribution. This process is reminiscent of features that have long been known under Windows.

The green button becomes more powerful. This means that you can move the top windows not only left and right, but also up and down. It is also possible to arrange existing windows directly, for example in one, two, three and four distributions. It is also possible to determine whether there is space between the windows (margins).

Distribution is even easier using the mouse or trackpad, which is reminiscent of Windows 7 and “Aero Snap”. If you drag a window to a certain area, it will stay magnetically attached there in the form of window tiling if you wish. This is similarly possible with other windows; the operating system then provides a distribution to place the windows in a visually sensible way.

This is not yet fully resolved in the current beta versions of macOS 15. So it happens that in Windows Next Location Slipping, creating unnecessarily large gaps between windows, or simply not seeing all the content in a window because it is too small.

Nevertheless, it can be assumed that special tools for window management such as Moom Or Magnet Some users will lose out because Apple “sherlocks” many of their functions directly into the operating system. (However, apps can save window setups and perform other special functions.) Apple should continue to work on the feature in upcoming betas and improve window tiling until it no longer has related bugs. Beta testers should also go into System Settings and experiment with the Settings button there.
