xkcd stands for cult, sharp comics. Since 2005, former NASA roboticist Randall Munroe has been drawing caricatures and commenting on current events on his website. Topics range from science and technology to mathematics and linguistics to everyday observations. xkcd is popular for its pithy dialogues and humorous or satirical tone.

The minimalist sketches quickly get to the point. However, from time to time, Munro presents more complex material that can quickly become a time-waster: the Machine For example, an interactive game.

The balls fall from one or more holes into the playing field. The visitor must use all sorts of devices – deflection boards, fans or pinball bumpers – to direct them to certain locations where they fall out of the playing field chamber. As if that wasn’t entertaining enough, the visitor’s cell is integrated into an overall structure that includes the cells of dozens of other users. So you can spend a lot of time clicking on the constructions of other machine architects.

The rules of the machine, which are a bit more complex, can be found on the English language site explain xkcd Study. She also explains what you need to do so that your own cell becomes permanently incorporated into the overall structure and becomes visible to everyone.
