Nubia Z70 Ultra in Testing

The Nubia Z70 Ultra 144 Hz provides a display without the notch, a variable camera lens, a large battery and a lot of power – but gets hot. The test shows whether the smartphone is still an internal formula tip.

The cost of a top smartphone is more than 1000 Euro? This foreign Nubia does not apply to Z70 Ultra. Even the anterior is confident as an exciting and inexpensive option. The new model now provides full strength of Snapdragon 8 Elite and is the first time a variable main camera in addition to ultra-wing angle and teline. The visually, angular block also creates a difference and again provides a huge battery with carbon technology.

The Nubia Z70 basically belongs to the design of the ultra preceding and sets refreshing with mass. While many current Android smartphones rely on large, round camera Meadows, Nubia remains loyal to its striking look. With its angular aluminum frame, the Z70 Ultra reminds of a pixel 9 Pro – but in a slimmer version. The back contains silk matte -colored glass, which is surprisingly resistant to fingers. A beige silicone cover is included.

The camera lens on the back is reorganized: large, round lenses with red metal ring are now sitting on top, including the other two sensors and round LED flash. The angular design looks striking and reminds of the 1980s science-fi movies-as the Z60 with Ultra. With dimensions of 164.3 × 77.1 × 8.6 mm, it is an impressive smartphone, but is about 20 grams lighter than its predecessor with 228 grams.

The screen again provides spread with narrow edges and an emergency – the front camera is invisible bottom, so that the screen area remains constant. On the right, the power button below the volume cesso is again painted. The bottom is a separate camera button on the right, while the programmable slider is now reaching the top to the left.

The display protection film applied to the factory with its sharp edges reduces the high -quality overall impression. Nubia Z70 Ultra is again dust and waterproofing- this time even after IP69, which provides protection with high pressure water and steam jet cleaning.

Thanks to narrow edges, the OLED display comes for an impressive diagonal of 6.85 inches. Nubia has further increased the refresh rate and resolution: the display, however, dissolves with 2688 × 1216 pixels, which matches the pixel density of about 431 ppi. The fresh rate is automatically adapted between 60 and maximum 144 Hz – it ensures liquid animation, smooth scrolling and better gaming experience, but also increases power consumption.

The image assures the quality board and provides succulent contradiction with the lowest black and stronger colors. If you prefer it exclusively bright, you can choose a colorful color palette, while the “soft” option provides gentler color. The screen is also bright which remains easy to read outside. According to Nubia, performance in HDR mode briefly reaches 2000 NITs.

The camera setup is largely reminiscent of its predecessor with a main and wide-angle camera and a telenes with 64 megapixels. However, the main lens with Sony IMX906 sensor now offers a variable aperture of f/1.59–4.0. A visual stabilization (OIS) also contains the main lens with 2.4 times zoom and f/2.48 with Telillin (Omnivision Ov64B). Ultra -Omnivision Ov50D is done without it and provides a panel with f/2.0. For selfie, a 16 -megapixel lens is used under the screen.

If you press the camera button for a long time, the camera app starts. A small press is enough to trigger. In addition to standard mode, a street mode and a Pro mode are also available.

The handling is somewhat unusual. So you do not choose zoom levels, but focal length. The main camera uses 35 mm, 18 mm for broad angles and 85 mm for zoom. If you tap the respective button in the interface again, another zoom level comes into the game with a separate focal length. Alternatively, you press the focal length for a long time and then achieve zoom levels as usual.

The main camera gives really good recording with natural but clear color. Image details and sharpness are clear, well coordinated and dynamic range is consistent – but can be slightly better than Xiaomi, Samsung or honor. Pungent and conversely, software usually helps successfully. The result is somewhat variable at night. In some recording, it is excellent to be lighter in the “Milky Way Night” mode, sometimes it is almost very bright, yet it becomes dark.

Talen gives innocent recording at 85 mm a day – it looks brighter than 35 mm. The result also looks really good with 140 mm. Even ten times with zoom (350 mm), the pictures do not have too much image noise. It is possible to increase up to 50 times, but then you should not be surprised on the pixel. At night, however, the televnus decreases significantly and goes to a green tinge.

Wide angle lenses along the focal length of 18 mm distribute good shots, but can not live very surprisingly with the other two lenses. The images look slightly deep and despite similar resolutions there are less details. In the dark, this lens is no longer to be used actually. Macrome mode automatically switchs automatically if necessary.

The selfie looks clean and offers with sufficient image sharp – however, a loss of integrated construction under the screen has been shown. This lens cannot be placed with top smartphone selfie. If the performance is slightly dirty or wet through rain, the image also looks milky. It is necessary to wipe the screen here. The beauty filter is active by default and unfortunately looks slightly unnatural.

Video 4K is possible in up to 120 FPS with the main camera and 30 FPS in 8K and look neatly with adequate stabilization. Nubia’s movement image cannot be placed with Samsung or Xiaomi. We get the best results at 4K with 30 FPS. Selfie videos are possible only in full HD at 30 FPS.

Thanks to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite, Nubia Z70 offers Ultra heavy performance and is one of the fastest smartphones in our tests – ideal for gaming. Currently Android smartphone has no sharp SOC.

Strong performance is shown in the benchmark: PCmark reaches a proud 25,000 points, 3 demark solar bays have 11,000 points, and 3 DIMark Wildlife Extreme Extreme 6200 points. Even in the stress test of wild life extreme under the long full load for a long time, the efficiency remains solid with about 70 percent. However, the device becomes extremely hot – you really burn your fingers.

As a memory, 256 GB or 512 GB fast UFS is available according to the 4.0 standard, complemented by 16 GB RAM. A memory expansion through microSD is not possible. In terms of connectivity, the Z70 ultra is well equipped: 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC and an infrared port board. The connection provides USB-C 3.1. The location is with GNSS systems such as GPS, Glonass, Beiidou, Galileo and QZSS with accuracy of three meters.

The smartphone supports dual sim, but the installation of an ESIM is not possible. The quality of the voice is good while calling. The sound of loudspeakers is good in itself, but sometimes there is a little tinary – especially when you talk about it. The fingerprint sensor on the display works with an optical sensor and is reliable.

Nubia Z70 equipped Ultra with current Android 15, in version 1.0 in -house user interface is complemented by Nebula AIOS. The user interface is well -organized and clear. The icon, fonts and system colors can be adjusted individually, as always-propagation. Originally the German translation of the Chinese menu has been largely successful, even though sometimes unpublished yogas are noticeable.

AI function focuses on a translation function for photography and calls. There is also a bridge-out sidebar with the most frequently used apps and AI optimization of 5G and Wlan connectivity. Google Gemini is also supported. All the Google apps such as maps and gmail are already pre-installed on our test devices, as well as some sensible additional programs such as calculator and data transfer app. The widespread discount of bilotware is positive.

Nubia is traditionally related to software updates: only a large Android upgraded, as well as a security patch for about three years. It is loaded up to 80 watts, includes a charger – but with a Chinese power plug. This smartphone is filled again in about 45 minutes. Instead, if you use power supply with power delivery 3.0 and 120 watts, a full load takes about an hour. Wireless charging is not supported.

Nubia Z70 Ultra provides too much performance at an attractive value. With Snapdragon 8 Elite, a light provides the notch and a variable main camera without a 144 Hz-Olade display, inexpensive flagship strong technical details. The design also stands with its striking, angular look. The camera gives impressive recording during the day and usually shows good results at night.

However, the device becomes quite hot under full load, which may be mainly uncomfortable in intensive gaming sessions. In addition, the update period is short, and the user has to do wireless charging and ESIM without support. Nevertheless, Z70 is an exciting option away from the mainstream with ultra powerful hardware.
