Camera maker Canon is getting into the business with subscription apps for the iPhone and iPad – which don’t even require Canon cameras. The first product is called live switcher mobile (LSM) and is aimed at people who conduct live streams over the Internet. As the name suggests, this tool allows you to control multiple iPhones and iPads to send a multi-cam feed. The idea is reminiscent of a similar function in Final Cut Pro 2 for iPad, but it’s not for live streams, but instead provides separate tracks for multi-cam editing later.

YouTube, Facebook Plus Streaming URL
Live Switcher Mobile works with up to three cameras, which can be an iPad and iPhone logged into the same WLAN. YouTube and Facebook are supported as output platforms, but other services can also be integrated, as long as there is a suitable streaming URL to which the content can be “sent”. There is an automatic mode in which the device currently filming switches to another device after a certain number of seconds. In this way, even solo fighters should achieve “dynamic flow” in their live streams.
Various setting options are available to give the live stream a more creative look: you can insert text (including subtitles) and graphics into the video and display comments in real time. There’s also a picture-in-picture mode for reaction videos. The latter must be running with iOS or iPadOS 16, 17 or 18, there are no other requirements; Synchronization occurs immediately after installing the app.
In terms of price, it is only for professionals
LSM is basically free to use – including local recording, audio mixing and the option to integrate external audio devices. Anyone who pays a subscription fee of 20 euros per month currently receives five additional features. The most important are the ability to hide watermarks along with integrated advertising during live streaming. Additionally, paying customers can switch resolution between FHD and HD, zoom and move pictures in picture-in-picture mode, and activate an image overlay to aid branding.
