Code Discovered: Is Apple planning an invitation app for the iPhone?

Are there any new Apple apps coming with iOS 18.3? This is indicated by code leaks. As 9to5Mac reports, it appears to be a new type of event management tool that apparently bears the same name “invited” (“Invitation”). It’s unclear why Apple would want to outsource this function to its own program, which could actually be part of the regular Calendar app.

The information about “Invites” is already in the second beta of iOS 18.3, but it is said to be included in the iOS 18.2 beta as well. The corresponding code was then removed from the current final version of the software. 9to5Mac speculates that “Invites” will have additional features in addition to the normal invite function in the Calendar app. The application uses the iOS 18 daemon GroupKit and interacts with iCloud. Then it may have its own version on iCloud.com.

Essentially, the app displays a list of people who have been invited to an event and who have already confirmed their participation – so you can keep track of who’s coming to an event. It is not yet possible to say conclusively whether “Invites” is part of another application or actually functions as a standalone app. A mini-application for the news app would also be possible. However, this is no simple extra feature for the Calendar app. Apparently Apple also wants more users to know and use the invite function. For example, it is frequently used by Google Calendar users.

To date, there has been no announcement from Apple regarding “invitations”. Normally, all of the central features of iOS 18 should have been announced at WWDC 2024 last summer. “The app will likely have a more immersive interface for inviting someone to an event than what calendar apps currently provide,” the report said.

Obviously it is not clear why the application is only being distributed so late. Obviously this has nothing to do with Apple Intelligence. Alternatively, it could be imagined that the “invitation” is for internal use by Apple only. However, such apps should not be leaked in beta code. 9to5Mac writes that another feature that hasn’t been announced yet is an exclusive app store for the game. It is currently being tested internally for iOS 18, but may only appear with iOS 19.
